PennJersey SheDevils (and Hooligans) are planning on posting a
picture of the track damage and a donation jar on the Merch table at our
next game, June 28. We are hoping that we can get those who attend the
game to drop some loose change/bills in the jar so we can send it to
Lali to help out with the rebuild. We are hoping that the other OSDA
leagues will follow suit

Bio:

Formed in March 2007, the Hooligans team grew from the referees of
the women’s team- The Penn Jersey She Devils. The Hooligans have been
members of the OSDA since it’s inception as part of the co-ed flat track
league, the Penn Jersey She Devils. We have a fully co-ed training
program led by Roller Derby Hall of Famer Judy Sowinski and Warriors
great Arnold Skip Schoen. We are very involved in the OSDA and are
working hard to promote mens, women’s and co-ed roller derby.

The Penn Jersey She Devils are the first league to bring roller derby
back to the Philadelphia region in almost 30 years. Founded in 2005 by
Ken Sikes and Greg Spencer, the She Devils started out with just a
handful of girls and a vision of restoring one of America’s most popular
sports to some of its former glory.

Today, PJSD is a skater-owned and operated co-ed league more than
fifty skaters strong and growing. Members hail from Philadelphia, PA all
the way up to Woodbridge, NJ and come from all walks of life. There are
singles, couples, tattoo artists, nurses, chefs, moms, ex-athletes, and
novices throwing bruise-inducing blocks at every practice.

To help us skaters get the most out of every stride are two
ex-professional skaters, Judy “The Polish Ace” Sowinski and Arnold
“Skip” Schoen. We also have our champion speed skating advisor, known
as “Big John” on the rink. Judy skated for the LA T-Birds, the Eastern
Warriors, and NY Bombers between the late 50’s and the early 80’s. She
was Rookie of the Year in 1972 and was inducted into the Roller Derby
Hall of Fame in 2004. She kicks our ass at every practice, demands 110
percent, and pushes each and every one of us to be the toughest skaters
we can out on the rink. Skip also skated with the Eastern Warriors in
the 1970’s and can still give our best jammers a run for their money.
Every practice he’s skating right along side us, teaching us the proper
ways to block, whip, turn, and fall… so we’re still in one piece after a
hard game!

Currently, PJSD skates flat track derby, as do most of the hundred
plus leagues around the world. However, one of PJSD’s main goals is to
have its own venue and a banked track. In the interest of keeping
today’s version of derby as close to banked-track rules as possible, the
She Devils helped found the Old School Derby Association in 2007.
OSDA’s rules are designed specifically to keep derby real, rough, and
unpredictable – as it should be! Check out the OSDA’s website to learn
more about how we play the game and find other member leagues in your
area. Better yet, come to one of our games and see the excitement for
yourself. Take a look at our events and buy tickets in advance to avoid
missing out. We can’t wait to see you trackside!

Dearest Penn Jersey Roller She-Devils Roller Derby fans,

Hello and how are you? Tuffy Muffy (#5), here, your faithful
correspondent from that rough and tumble old-school league, the Penn
Jersey She-Devils! I’m that friendly buzz in your ear, reminding you
what events you want to be the first to know about; so you can brag
about being on the inside of the roller derby world to your friends, of
course!

First of all, let’s recap March’s intense season opener, the
Shamrock Shakedown between the Sadistic Sweethearts and the Dishonor
Roll.  The Sweethearts came out triumphant 49-23 over the Dishonor
Roll, but trust me, it was no easy road to victory.  Both teams
had a number of rookies skating in their first league match-up, myself
included.  I thought of many of us as feral beasts trying to claw
through the pack in any way possible, leading to multiple visits to the
penalty box and 2 girl-fights that stopped play entirely!  The
refs had their work cut out for them, but rest assured, they only
awarded legitimately earned points!  I definitely saw members from
the Fallen Angels watching closely and taking notes for April’s game.
 Check our website for stats and pictures from the Shakedown.

href=”http://web.archive.org/web/20080625021650/http://www.shedevilsrollerderby.com/Media.html”
target=”_blank”>www.shedevilsrollerderby.com/Media.html

If you didn’t attend the Shakedown, PJSD’s Spring BREAK ’08
between the Dishonor Roll and the Fallen Angels, is a must-see!
 The Dishonor Roll is sure to be fierce as they battle back after
March’s game and they may even change up their strategy to throw the
Angels a curveball.  The other thing to look for at our April game
is the gang from Ride For Dime Philly.  Ride For Dime (RFD) is an
annual charity ride and concert in memory of musician Darrell
“Dimebag” Abbott, along with Jeff Thompson, Nathan Bray, and Erin
Halk.
href=”http://web.archive.org/web/20080625021650/http://www.ridefordime.com/”
target=”_blank”>www.ridefordime.com
 The proceeds from Spring
BREAK’s 50/50 will go to RFD and they will be in attendance to talk
about their big concert coming up to benefit Little Kids Rock.

href=”http://web.archive.org/web/20080625021650/http://www.littlekidsrock.org/”
target=”_blank”>www.littlekidsrock.org
 All this and more
will go down on Saturday, April 26th at the International Sports,
Skating, and Fun Centre in Mount Laurel, NJ.  Doors at 7:30pm, get
there early for the best rink-side seating!
href=”http://web.archive.org/web/20080625021650/http://www.intsports.com/mtl”
target=”_blank”>www.intsports.com/mtl

To prep for April’s showdown, come visit us at Philly’s Tattoo
Arts Convention from April 18-20th at the Sheraton Philadelphia City
Center Hotel.  Tattoos are to roller derby what cookies are to
milk!  Get inked from some of the area’s most talented artists
and say hi to your favorite She-Devils while you’re at it!
 We’ll have tickets for the game, merch, tattoos to show off,
and a healthy dose of sass.

target=”_blank”>www.tattooedkingpin.com/philly2008.html

Finally, while you’re marking your calenders, save Friday, May 2nd.
 The She-Devils are pairing up with the party planners of Emerge
to celebrate the Equality Forum
href=”http://web.archive.org/web/20080625021650/http://www.equalityforum.com/”
target=”_blank”>www.equalityforum.com
and benefit the Sapphire Fund

href=”http://web.archive.org/web/20080625021650/http://www.sapphirefund.org/”
target=”_blank”>www.sapphirefund.org
!  This year’s Emerge
party is set to be the biggest yet with a whole line-up of bands, DJ
Cozmic Cat, and even comedienne Marga Gomez!  The party goes from
9pm-3am at Transit Nightclub, 600 Spring Garden, Philadelphia.
 Purchase tickets at
href=”http://web.archive.org/web/20080625021650/http://emerge.sapphirefund.org/”
target=”_blank”>http://emerge.sapphirefund.org

Now that your April is all planned out, call up your friends, brag a
little, then be kind and invite your friends along!  I,
personally, can’t wait to see all you fine people out!

Sincerely,
Tuffy Muffy #5

P.S.  If you’d like to request a She-Devils presence at your
event, simply contact us with information about your event, the date,
and the time.  We’d be happy to show up and work the crowd at
your happy hour, dance party, gig, business luncheon, inaugural address,
etc.  events@shedevilsrollerderby.com

This happened at
the Throwdown scrimmages
Body: One of our Navy City Roller Girls sustained a very serious injury
doing what she loved most…ROLLERDERBY. She broke her right ankle in 3
places, she now has 11 screws and 2 plates.
Due to excessive swelling she must wait for a hard cast, after the hard
cast comes 6-8 weeks with no weight bearing on her leg.
The doctors have told her that she is in amazing health for a woman of
her age and should recover completely.
However, as the owner of a farm and 6 horses we fear she will suffer
finacially being out of work for such a long period of time.

As her teammates we are dedicating our time and energy
to her immediate needs such as helping with meals, chores (scooping
horse poooo, ewwww…wanna help?) errands and anything we can to help.

We as a league our asking that you help us make “Scag
Hag’s” recovery as comfortable as possible physically, mentally and
financially.
We are in the process of setting up a PayPal account to benefit Scags
recovery.
If you have questions on how you can help or would simply like to send

Dearest Penn Jersey She-Devils Roller Derby fans,

Thank you for your interest in our roller derby league!  As you
probably know, we are the first league to bring roller derby back to
the Philadelphia area in almost 30 years and we skate by old-school
rules…the way it should be!  We draw our inspiration from roller
derby’s history and our coaches, Judy “the Polish Ace” Sowinski
and Arnold “Skip” Schoen, both of whom skated professional roller
derby with the Philadelphia Warriors.  Some of you may be newer
fans who saw us defeat Canada and some of you may be older fans who
haven’t heard from us in a while; either way, from now on you’ll be
getting updates on our whereabouts so you can join in on the fun!

My name is Tuffy Muffy (#5) and I’ll be your faithful
correspondent, updating you on all our up-coming games and events
monthly.  Our 2008 season is starting to pick up speed as new
recruits have been placed on each of our 3 interleague women’s teams:
the Fallen Angels, the Sadistic Sweethearts, and the Dishonor Roll.
 Keep your eyes on our hot new website that is in the process of
being launched for updated rosters.  There you can also find
important information like what drink to buy your favorite player at the
after-party!

March is keeping us busy with events that you do NOT want to miss!
 Our first big fundraiser of the year is on Friday, March 7th at
Sisters Nightclub where the She-Devils proudly present a hot and sexy
Drag King Review!  All are welcome to attend and delight in
performances by the Philly Kings, the NY Kings, and even amateur Kings
from the She-Devils!  After being enticed by the charms of our
Kings, your amorousness can seek a little release at our ALWAYS popular
kissing booth.  Not to worry if you’re shy, there will be plenty
of social lubricant to ease things along!  Namely, drink specials
from 9-11pm and jello shots for as long as supplies last!  And
lastly, a hint for you ladies and gents on how to use the She-Devils’
kissing booth in your favor…if you see a She-Devil you’d like to smooch,
grab her [respectfully...you don't wanna get socked...] off the
dancefloor and pull her behind the booth, fork over your dollar, and
pucker up…rinse…repeat.  Sisters Nightclub is located at 1320
Chancelor Street in Philly.

If you just can’t get enough of us on Friday night, check us out
Sunday morning.  We’ll be strutting our stuff (on wheels, of
course) at the Philly St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 9th.
 We’ll be right there with all the floats, Irish dancers, and
guys that poured a little too much Bailey’s in their morning coffee,
so look out for us!

From March 14th -16th, the She-Devils will be in attendance at the
Monster Mania Convention in Mount Laurel, NJ.  Not only can you
watch screenings of your favorite horror flicks and meet your favorite
horror stars, but you can also meet the She-Devils!  If you ask
nicely, we’ll use our derby skills to protect you from the zombies and
Gremlins.  I will be shopping my latest script around: Alien vs
Derby Girl.

Finally, March culminates in our season opener: Sadistic Sweethearts
vs Dishonor Roll on Saturday, March 22nd at the International Sports and
Fun Center in Mount Laurel, NJ!  This is one game you wanna see
for yourself.  I have it on good grounds that the Dishonor Roll
captains, Classy Chassis and Miss Chievious, have it personally out for
the Sadistic Sweetheart captains, Lucky Luciano and Cherry Bomber.
 You should of have seen the way they double teamed Cherry at our
Fort Dix game in February!  I had to look away!  These are
two evenly matched teams with the Dishonor Roll being our newest
established team despite having a number of veteran players and the
Sweethearts with 4 of our newest and most-promising skaters!  This
game is sure to be fiery; fortunately, the drinks at the after-party
will be ice-cold!  For tickets, check out our website

or attend any of our
March events!  We can’t wait to see you there!

Sincerely,
Tuffy Muffy #5
